Art and Design

On a weekly basis, children are given opportunities for a variety of art and design activities in order to develop their techniques and creativity. Pupils undertake a range of projects in which they have responsibility for the planning, building and evaluating their work. A variety of media are used and the projects are often linked to other curriculum areas, for example in the production of portraits and Celtic oil lamps. The school has also been awarded the Silver Arts Mark as recognition of its commitment to this area of the curriculum.

Provision in the curriculum will enable pupils to:-
  • Use experiences, other subjects across the curriculum and ideas as inspiration for artwork
  • Develop and share ideas in a sketchbook and in finished products
  • Improve mastery of techniques
  • Learn about the great artists, architects and designers in history
