We believe children learn best when they see a purpose to their learning and lessons are enjoyable. Termly Theme Weeks exemplify this structure to our curriculum best of all. From our Maths week entitled ‘All the Fun of the Fair’ through our Media week, to our Fashion show and Archaeological Dig, children have been inspired and motivated to develop their own thinking and learning. The curriculum has taken on a new meaning by empowering children to ask open questions, rehearse, develop and control learnt skills in real and simulated situations.
The children of Brushwood follow the National Curriculum for England (2014). The standards achieved by our pupils in the National Curriculum tests taken at the end of Year 6 show a rising trend in the value added scores from KS1 to KS2. We have established assessment procedures that show individual pupils’ progress clearly and use the data to show the steps that will move the pupil on to the next levels. Individual targets are set for each pupil, which enable them to know what they need to do to make progress and achieve.
Below is a standard school time table. As our curriculum is largely thematic the timetable alters weekly for sessions 3-5.
